Police Chief Zachary Mathies presented department activity figures and the first-month results from newly installed radar signs on 4th Street during the Jan. 21 La Cygne council meeting.
Mathies said the northbound 4th Street radar recorded 2,470 vehicles (an average of 205 per day) with a top speed of 43 mph and 96 vehicles over 35 mph, and noted that the northbound sign was picking up railroad cars and Market Street traffic. "North bound 4th Street Traffic Data – 2470 Vehicles Recorded, 205 Average per day, Top speed 43MPH, 96 Vehicles over 35mph," he reported.
On fleet management, Mathies reviewed warranty options for the 2023 Dodge Durango and the high mileage on the 2016 Ram 1500 (123,000+ miles). He presented three warranty proposals (7yrs/100,000 for $3,460; 5yrs/100,000 for $3,135; and a premium 5yrs/100,000 for $4,850) and reported used 2019 Chevy Tahoe units at auction priced in the $40,000–$60,000 range but noted that some auctioned vehicles lacked dash cams and radios and would require installation. Council moved and passed 5-0 to empower Chief Mathies to bid up to $30,000 on one 2019 Chevy Tahoe at auction.
