Superintendent George Mendoza asked the board during the April 23 work session to consider purchase of the Miller's Cabinet and Showroom building at 217 Greenwood Street as a potential site to expand career and technical education (CTE) programs at La Grande High School (LHS).
The board agreed that Mendoza should contact the City of La Grande to determine whether the city would be willing to change the building's zoning to allow district use. The meeting record states, “The Board was in agreement with the Superintendent speaking with the City of La Grande to learn if they would be willing to change the zoning for the building.”
No purchase motion or funding was approved at the work session; the board's direction was limited to authorizing the superintendent to pursue information and preliminary outreach. Any purchase, rezoning application or budget action would require future board consideration and public notice.
