The La Grande School District No. 1 board of directors unanimously approved a district request to waive the Senate Bill 3 personal-finance requirement for the Class of 2027, moving the requirement to the Class of 2028. Director Merle Comfort moved the motion and Director Robin Jolin seconded; the board voted unanimously to approve the waiver.
Superintendent George Mendoza had told the board that it would be difficult to place enough students into the Personal Finance class for the class of 2027 under current scheduling constraints, and the waiver would permit the district to comply beginning with the Class of 2028. The action was recorded as an official board motion and passed without dissent. The waiver had been previewed during the superintendent's report earlier in the meeting.
