County councilor warns pre-municipality application could shift costs to towns

Luke Searle, an at-large Wasatch County council member, attended the meeting to brief the town council on a preliminary municipality application that had recently been considered by the lieutenant governor’s office. He said the local government should be prepared because similar applications have resurfaced and could be resubmitted next year.
"Being able to do a pre municipality is a joke," Luke said, "because part of it is that after 5 years, if it fails, then it goes back to the county." He urged Walsburg to work with county staff and state officials and suggested convening a public meeting with the lieutenant governor's office and the county's senators so residents can ask questions. Councilors discussed annexation tactics, road and water impacts, and potential cooperative approaches with the county to protect town infrastructure and secure matching funds for road repairs.
