Chair opened the work meeting and turned the floor over to Kyle, the town’s finance staff, to walk the council through an amended budget worksheet for 2026 and a proposed 2027 column. Kyle said he had added a 2026 changes column to highlight recommended adjustments and urged councilors to ask questions.
Kyle explained the biggest formal move: a $100,000 transfer from the general fund to the capital projects fund. "So this transfer to capital projects, part of that is for that road project," Kyle said, and he added that the transfer also keeps the general fund under a state legal limit on year-end fund balances. He reported the town’s general fund balance at about $317,000 and noted that roughly $70,000 of that is restricted Class C road money.
The council discussed how the transfer preserves money for future projects while allowing the town to amend the operating budget later in the year if needed. Chair asked staff to prepare a short, plain-language summary of the changes for the website and to leave a few printed copies at town hall so residents can see what changed and why.
