During budget discussion Speaker 1 told the council that new water rates took effect on Jan. 1 but that January bills (mailed Jan. 3) reflected December usage, so customers will see the new rates applied on February bills for January use. “They were effective January 1,” he said, and staff confirmed billing timing and adjustments for the transition month.
In department reports the water report noted a recent walk-through found a well that had not run since last spring. Council members agreed to request instructions from the water operator to run the well periodically and discussed flushing the PRV and system for about 10 minutes to prevent stagnant water. Staff committed to get procedures and to execute routine runs going forward to maintain water quality.
