Commissioners approve routine bills and multiple line-item transfers in May 16 special meeting

Brooks County Commissioners Court approved a set of routine payments and budget adjustments at its May 16 special meeting in Falfurrias. The Court voted to approve presented bills, pay a $495 VetPro National annual license to Panoramic Software, and pay two $300 publication invoices to Falfurrias Publishing for RFQ notices.
The Court also approved multiple line-item transfers across county budgets. Approved moves included $700 from office supplies to uniforms (with a clerical correction to the cited line-item), $600 from out-of-county travel to office supplies, $14,000 from jailers to accounting/auditing services, $1,000 from jailers to gas and oil expense, $3,500 from grant matching to elevator maintenance, and a $500 grant-matching correction. These motions were carried by roll call; most passed unanimously.
One transfer prompted additional discussion: the $12,500 reallocation from 012-5-0512-8105 (Jailers) to 012-5-0512-8129 (Overtime) passed with three Yes votes and one abstention from Commissioner Martin "Marty" Cabrera. Commander Jorge Esparaza addressed the Court to explain reasons for increased overtime in jail operations. The meeting minutes record that the various payments and transfers were approved by majority vote.
