Commission Chair Preston Evenson and the Greenwood County Commission voted 5‑0 on Feb. 23 to approve leasing a new CAT road grader after Road and Bridge Supervisor Allen Greenwood outlined the county’s alternatives. Greenwood told the commission that CAT had increased the trade‑in allowance on the county’s current grader from "$25,000 to $40,000," and that repairing the existing machine would require a new transmission costing roughly $54,000 plus about $25,000 in servicing. He also said the grader is approaching 10,000 hours of use.
Greenwood said the proposed lease would delay the first payment until the end of 2027 and that, with the county already leasing two graders, the new lease would bring the county’s grader commitment to about $150,000 per year. Commissioner Roy Ballard moved to approve the lease; Commissioner Judd Everitt seconded and the motion carried 5‑0. The commission did not specify financing terms beyond the deferred payment date presented in the meeting record.
