Commission signs KDOT bridge agreement and hears costly grader repair estimate

Road and Bridge Administrative Assistant Kassie Lazar told the Greenwood County Commissioners that the county signed a Kansas Department of Transportation agreement for the 100 and U bridge with a 95%/5% cost split; Greenwood County will be responsible for preliminary engineering costs that are not included in the agreement.
Lazar also reported the county's grader #41 has a failed transmission. She said a replacement transmission is estimated at $54,000 while the grader as-is is valued at $25,000; if repaired the grader could be worth about $85,000. Lazar said the machine has logged about 7,700 hours and will need a 10,000-hour service that she estimated would cost about $25,000. She noted a CAT grader option was available with a $50,000 payment and the first payment not due until the end of 2027; Road and Bridge Supervisor Allen Greenwood is scheduled to appear at the next commission meeting to discuss options.
