Chairman Richard “Quijas” Brunk told the committee the States Attorney and Sheriff are proposing a violence-reduction strategy and are seeking the board’s commitment for consultant funding of $145,000. Brunk described the initiative as a two-pronged approach that combines preventative measures with improved information to support court decisions about detention and supervision.
Brunk said similar collaboration has shown success in Davenport and other cities and that the county would act as a main repository for records while municipalities would have input. The committee approved moving the proposal forward by voice vote; the States Attorney will continue to pursue potential funding to cover consultant costs and the consultant will present to the Committee of the Whole.
