County Administrator Jim Grafton briefed the committee on proposals to engage an insurance broker who would solicit bids for catastrophic liability coverage to supplement the county’s self-insured layer. Grafton said the county is effectively self-insured and is seeking additional coverage in a layer between $2 million and $10 million to limit the county’s out-of-pocket exposure in major liability claims.
Grafton said no firm premium numbers were yet available; the committee approved moving forward with consideration of broker proposals and asked staff to prioritize brokers with broad carrier relationships and references from other counties or school districts. Staff expects to return with comparative bids and reference information within one to two months.
