Commissioners accept $7,500 donation for sheriff's drone, approve pay and radio funds

Duval County Commissioners on Oct. 14 accepted a $7,500 donation from EOG Resources Inc. to fund purchase of a drone for the Sheriff's Office to be used in criminal investigations. The motion was made by Commissioner Pete A. Guerra, seconded by Commissioner Marla M. Garza, and recorded as carried with all present voting "Aye."
The court also approved supplemental pay of $2,500.00 retroactive to Oct. 1, 2025, for Jail Administrator Kimberley Perez, to be paid from the Inmate Commissary Fund under Local Government Code Chapter 351, subsection 351.0415. Separately, the court authorized transferring $18,000.00 from Sheriff's General 460 Operations to contract labor for continuation of radio communication infrastructure. The NCIC inmate-communications contract with Network Communication International Corporation (DBA NCIC) was tabled for further consideration.
