Board supports exploring consolidation of regional workforce development districts

Board Chair Don Swinker briefed the supervisors on a proposal to explore consolidating nearby workforce development districts to protect local control and program continuity after state funding cuts. He said Mississippi Valley Workforce Development and South Central Iowa Workforce Development have expressed interest and that the county is being asked to support pursuing consolidation discussions and presentations.
"From what I've heard right now, it is the best case scenario to make sure we on the East Side Of Iowa have continued representation," Swinker said before the board moved to support investigating a consolidation of up to four districts. A motion to investigate and lend county support was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote; staff will receive presentations and report back as the districts refine details.
