Jackson County approves TSIP grant application for safety upgrades on 395th Avenue

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to submit a fiscal year 2027 Transportation Safety Improvement Program (TSIP) application seeking funds to adjust a horizontal curve on 395th Avenue and add paved shoulders and rumble strips.
“The safety improvement along with the shoulder rumbles are what I’m proposing for the fiscal year 27 TSIP grant,” the public works official said, describing a plan that would flatten the vertical profile and straighten a portion of the curve near the intersection of 395th and 308th Street. The official said the application reuses work from an earlier RAISE grant application that was not funded and estimated roughly 4 acres of right-of-way could be needed for the realignment.
County leaders said the intersection would remain in its current location and that staff would contact landowners if the grant is awarded. Committee member Mike Sinus made the motion to submit the application; Committee member Nim Flagle seconded it and the board approved the request. The official told supervisors they expect to learn grant outcomes in December or January and will continue road rehabilitation work on the corridor regardless of the award.
