Conservation director: Bright Creek disc-golf course open, paving and shelter still pending

Nathan Jones, Jackson County conservation director, told the board on Aug. 26 that the Bright Creek disc-golf course is largely in place and already being used by residents. "I can't believe how many people are actually playing," Jones said, and staff have begun returning found discs to owners.
Jones said course pads and baskets are installed but that asphalt paving and seating remain to be completed. He said staff expects to rent specialized equipment to smooth certain areas and is pursuing a change order price for stabilizing rock where the trail base needs correction. "Asphalt's at least a couple months out," Jones said, adding that cooler weather will slow drying and could affect scheduling.
The conservation director also reported the project has raised "around a 130,000 of the 200" the group had targeted, with several grant decisions still pending. Jones said the county plans a ribbon-cutting on one of the last two weekends in October and may link the event to water-quality outreach. He warned that funding shortfalls and potential change orders could affect which elements are finished this year.
The update was delivered as part of the regular departmental reports; there was no formal vote tied to the disc-golf project at the meeting. Board members asked staff to continue tracking change-order costs and to coordinate scheduling with contractors and funders.
