In August 2021 the commission approved a proposal from Alvena D. Williams to serve as a consultant for American Rescue Plan (ARPA) funds and clarified that all ARPA/COVID-stimulus expenditures must be approved by the full board before money is spent. Earlier, on March 18 and July 22, the commission revised its CDBG-CV proposed budget to include proposals from the Macon County Health Care Authority and held public hearings to collect comment and receive CDBG COVID-19 grant input.
Commissioners reiterated oversight requirements and asked staff to provide detailed proposals before any stimulus fund disbursement. The decision followed an earlier motion to have the county attorney prepare governing language and a public record of spending and ensures an approval gate prior to disbursement of federal stimulus dollars or CDBG-CV funds.
