Commissioners were briefed on April 1 that bids for the Simcoe paving project will be opened electronically on April 15 and that staff will post the bid tabulation for review.
The county consultant (speaker S10) said the project covers roughly 31 miles and estimated the contract amount “between, 1.3 and 1,400,000” dollars. He noted the package includes alternates such as fog seal and paint so the county can pick the most cost-effective combination. “We will have the login for that...we will also be here in person for anybody that might wanna be here,” S10 said. The commission asked staff to provide the bid tab at the next meeting and to ensure local contractors receive consistent bid sheets so comparisons are apples-to-apples.
The consultant also noted that paving prices have been favorable this year but cautioned that material and labor costs are volatile and may affect the final award decision.
