CFO Ryan Waller delivered the financial update for September, telling trustees the district’s expenditures early in the year are dominated by salaries and benefits—"79% of our spending in the general fund, almost 80 is salaries and benefits"—and that one-time summer purchases (for example, Chromebook payments) drove materials-and-supplies costs higher in that month.
Waller noted the August state apportionment helps district cash flow and reported enrollment as of Oct. 6 was slightly up from last year, which supports funding. He cautioned trustees about a state legislative-service-office projection indicating a possible statewide budget shortfall, saying it could make the coming legislative session a "pretty thin" one for education funding and that the board should monitor developments.
