Board hears warning on child nutrition fund after auditor flags losses

During the audit presentation Tim Boyd said child-nutrition programs statewide have faced pressure from the end of expanded COVID-era funding and rising costs. "This past 2 years, honestly, have been pretty tough for child nutrition programs," Boyd said, and told the board the district's child nutrition fund had an ending balance of approximately $13,000.
Boyd warned that continued losses in the child nutrition fund would need to be covered by the general fund. The transcript contains two inconsistent loss figures reported by the auditor — he first said "about $1,011,000 dollars of a loss in the fund" and then, in the same discussion, referred to "a loss of just $10,000." The district should confirm the correct line-item loss from the audit PDF; auditors and the business manager said they will provide follow-up clarification if board members request it.
