Pioneer cemetery neighbors seek permission to move utility pole; board asks for more details

George Daugherty, representing the Jackson County Pioneer Cemetery Commission, and neighbor Sue Mayberry described a request from Mayberry Farm to move a utility pole and three meters to the edge of Sweezy Cemetery to allow large farm equipment to pass safely.
Daugherty said the back corner of the roughly two‑acre cemetery is unused for burials and the Mayberrys offered to pay the costs, install a gate and repair the wire fence. "There's an easement that's 20 feet in from the boundary line of the cemetery," Daugherty said while explaining fence and easement constraints. Neighbors said the meter owner lives out of state and has not been reached; the board asked staff to confirm whether the pioneer-cemetery designation imposes legal restrictions on installing utilities, to get REC's easement and liability terms, and to secure contact information for the meter owner before placing the item back on the agenda.
Supervisor Don Swicker said he had no major opposition provided legal and utility questions are answered. The board asked staff to return with written answers and, if everything checks out, to include a line on a future agenda for formal action.
