Zoning staff told the board Aug. 19 that the zoning commission continues work on a comprehensive rewrite of the county zoning ordinance and plans to schedule a public hearing on the updated draft Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.
Becca Fluhap and zoning commissioners said recent drafts had become long and repetitive, making redline versions difficult for the public to follow. Commissioners recommended publishing a clean, reader-friendly copy and highlighting substantive changes for review. One commissioner praised the new draft's diagrams for illustrating setbacks and other technical requirements; staff said the update references Iowa code rather than attempting to replicate it so future state changes will not force repeated local edits.
