Jackson County approves budget amendment to cover vehicles, server and jail costs

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors approved Resolution 1141-09-09-2025 on Sept. 9 to amend the fiscal year 2025–26 budget to cover several capital and carryover expenses.
During the public hearing, county staff (Shelley) said the amendment includes a replacement sanitation vehicle ($30,600), budgeting $70,000 for a new IBM server in the auditor’s office, $15,000 to amend this year for drill equipment used for soil sampling, a zoning truck purchase (listed at $17,000), an additional $104,684 from the general fund for final Stronghold jail construction costs, a final Ashley Henson grant cost of $35,495 and extra RCTP funds of $13,003. "We're amending for a replacement vehicle for sanitation and for additional cost for the drill equipment for sanitation," Shelley said while summarizing the items.
Auditor Lisa moved the resolution and a supervisor seconded; the board voted "aye" and carried the resolution, authorizing the chair and auditor to sign the record for certification to the state of Iowa. A county resident, George Daugherty, asked about specific line items and staff confirmed the server was budgeted at $70,000 and the sanitation vehicle at $30,600. The board closed the public hearing before taking the vote. The resolution was recorded for certification to the state.
