Veterans affairs: office files claims, secures benefits and starts volunteer-driver pilot

Ruth from Jackson County Veterans Affairs gave the board an overview of recent work and outcomes.
She said the office had 73 open claims and that her office filed 79% of those; for Jackson County enrollment in May, "416 veterans, and or their eligible family members received $801,586," Ruth said. She noted the office filed multiple intents to file and disability claims in June and that decisions on many claims were completed in June as well.
Ruth also described outreach: she posted a volunteer-driver application and had five people express interest so far; those applications will be forwarded to Iowa City for the pilot program. She said staff completed national training through NACBSO and received continuing-education credits that meet national accreditation requirements.
