County approves MKEC supplemental engineering agreement for Walnut River bridge; $2M grant in place

Curtis Mader, Public Works Director, told the commission the Walnut River bridge on SW 80th St. has been in the county Capital Improvement Plan since 2023 because of traffic volume and safety concerns. The county was awarded a $2 million grant for the replacement; Mader said the supplemental MKEC agreement will revise plans to KDOT format, attend KDOT meetings and complete permitting and is estimated at $20,000–$30,000 on a time-and-materials basis (the original contract was $80,000).
Commissioner Dan Woydziak moved to approve the supplemental engineering contract from MKEC on a time-and-materials basis; Commissioner Darren Jackson seconded and the motion carried 4-0. Mader and the Board discussed future projects and CIP priorities for bridge and road work.
