Treasurer Kurt Greivenkamp described the award as part of federal ARPA funding being used for one-time costs to renovate classrooms and purchase equipment to start or expand trades classes. Judge/Executive Kris Knochelmann said the $400,000 package is intended as one-time capital support so the programs can get established without ongoing county staffing costs. Lorena Moore, who identified herself as the new executive director of TradesNKY, described the organization’s founding by local contractors and said her background is in workforce development for over 30 years.
Commissioner Jon Draud noted career-earning potential for trades workers and said early exposure benefits students. The court approved the subaward by voice vote, 4-0.
Next steps: The funding will be used for classroom renovations and equipment purchases to place TradesNKY programming in middle schools, with further coordination expected between TradesNKY, county staff, and the Kenton County School District.
