The Kenton County Fiscal Court and Sheriff Hehman presented Deputy Tim Berwanger with the American Police Hall of Fame Silver Star of Bravery for his actions during a Decoursey Avenue structure fire.
Sheriff Hehman described Deputy Berwanger’s response: while on routine patrol Berwanger observed the active fire, notified dispatch and entered the building to alert and evacuate occupants. He then coordinated temporary warming shelter logistics for displaced residents. “Deputy Berwanger demonstrated courage and commitment to this community,” Hehman said. Berwanger, accepting the award, said he was “just doing his job” and credited his colleagues and training.
