Planning official urges GMD 2 outreach after reported deepening of wells in McPherson County

John Kinsey, the county’s planning and zoning/environment administrator, asked the board to authorize outreach to Groundwater Management District No. 2 (GMD 2) and neighboring counties about a sustained decline in well water levels.
Kinsey said public WEMIS well data for McPherson County show water levels getting deeper by “about 8.5 to 10 feet over the last 10 years or so.” He asked whether the board wanted him to present a letter and the supporting data at the GMD 2 public meeting and to Sedgwick, Harvey and Reno counties; he said the GMD 2 board meeting was scheduled for the 23rd and that statute requires the district to address the issue by July 1.
Commissioners indicated consensus for Kinsey to proceed — no formal motion appeared necessary — and Kinsey said he would either present the material as public input or request an agenda slot depending on the district’s rules.
