Commission accepts TEACH traffic-safety study for Mount Ridge/Old 81 and authorizes KDOT submission

Elizabeth presented the TEACH consultant findings and recommended traffic-safety actions for areas where Arrowhead meets Old 81 and 22nd. The report recommended converting both intersections to four-way stops, adding rumble strips along Old 81 prior to intersections, installing flashing advance warning lights and monitoring crash data to reassess performance after implementation.
"My recommendation to you is that we accept the TEACH study as submitted to us by the consultant," Elizabeth said. Commissioners discussed whether some measures might create temporary crash risks during adjustment and noted law-enforcement limitations for enforcement outside city limits. The commission voted to accept the study so staff can submit the materials to KDOT for final review and to proceed with planning for permanent rumble strips and signage using county funds and workforce; final design details will be developed in coordination with KDOT and possibly the city.
