Public Works wins approvals for dump-truck transmission change, fuel-site wiring and hires

Mike described a discovered mismatch in the originally quoted dump-truck transmission, saying the quoted unit limited PTO speed and caused hydraulic-pressure fluctuations that would create operational problems for winter operations. The commission approved a change order to install an Allison automatic transmission at an additional cost of $8,590. "We didn't want to send you a truck that wouldn't work for your needs," Mike said in explaining the change.
Public Works also reported the new fuel-monitoring system installation encountered collapsed underground conduit under asphalt; the county will excavate, have an electrician install new conduit and pull new lines, and coordinate temporary refueling arrangements with the co-op. Commissioners approved electrical work and conduit replacement not to exceed $7,642.75 with county crews doing excavation and backfill.
Staff sought and received approval to advertise or hire for multiple positions: advertise for a mechanic vacancy, hire Carter Allen as a part-time seasonal maintenance worker for mowing effective May 18 (6 months/1,000 hours), and approve a position change/PCN for Spencer Hall from maintenance worker 3 to Engineering Tech 2 effective 05/24/2026. Commissioners approved the motions by voice votes.
