Commission approves EMS contract with Wesley Medical Center for hospital transfers

Frank Williams, Butler County Emergency Medical Services Director, presented a contract that allows Butler County EMS to perform hospital-to-hospital transfers for Wesley Medical Center when American Medical Response (AMR) is not available. The agreement—signed by Wesley Medical Center—permits Butler County EMS to bill Wesley directly rather than billing the patient or the patient’s insurer; Wesley will reimburse EMS at 150% of Medicare allowable charges for those services. The Board approved the contract and authorized the Chair to sign, 5-0.
Williams said the contract provides a mechanism to ensure patient transfers proceed when the primary private vendor is unavailable and clarifies reimbursement terms. County Counsel and EMS staff reviewed the draft prior to Wesley signing it, according to the minutes.
