County authorizes up to $105,000 for multi-site security camera upgrades

Lew Harter, Butler County IT Director, asked the Board to approve purchasing Axis cameras and server equipment as part of a multi-facility camera modernization. The project phases include completing the Jail transition, consolidating Judicial Center cameras onto a single modern server (noting exterior and elevator-encoder challenges), replacing exterior cameras at the Historic Courthouse, updates at Community Corrections and Election Central, and finishing the Western Office transition. Harter said staff gained Axis platform training during initial phases completed in 2025.
The Board authorized staff to purchase hardware on an as-needed basis, and to sign related documents, for a total not to exceed the $105,000 already budgeted. The minutes record the Board’s unanimous (5-0) approval and note IT may contract labor for installations while performing occasional troubleshooting in-house.
