Commissioners agree to renew SEK RDC membership, citing project-cost benefits for county applicants

A commissioner asked the board to renew Montgomery County’s membership in the Southeast Kansas Regional Development Commission (SEK RDC) and noted member benefits that reduce costs for local projects. The commissioner said the commission’s activities over the past 30 years justify continued membership and that nonmembers could face higher costs when applying for RDC-supported projects. "As a member the county as a member, they only have to pay $50 for each project that they wanna do," the commissioner said.
The board moved, seconded and voted to pay the membership dues of $7,122.90 for the 2026 year; commissioners recorded unanimous affirmative votes. Commissioners asked that use of the membership be reviewed again next year and directed staff to continue outreach so all towns in the county have the opportunity to participate in RDC programs.
