The Butler County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 13 approved a $4,999 Injury Prevention Mini‑Grant from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment to the Butler County Health Department to purchase Pack‑N‑Plays for safe‑sleep outreach.
Health Director Jamie Downs told the board the department will coordinate with KIDS Network and Emergency Medical Services and use certified safe‑sleep instructors to provide training at the countywide Baby Jubilee this August. The grant will allow staff to use Injury Prevention funds for Pack‑N‑Plays rather than depleting the county’s shrinking Maternal Child Health grant funds. All grant funds must be used and a final report submitted by Sept. 30, 2026.
Commissioner Darren Jackson moved to approve the contract and allow the health director to sign; Commissioner Dan Woydziak seconded and the motion carried 5‑0. The board’s action permits staff to purchase Pack‑N‑Plays and proceed with the planned trainings.
