Commission approves $140,425 renewal for Tyler public-safety software

The Butler County Board of Commissioners approved a $140,425.26 maintenance-and-support renewal with Tyler Technologies for the county’s Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), sheriff records and jail records systems. Lew Harter, the county’s Information Technology Director, told commissioners the software is mission-critical for public safety and contains legally regulated criminal-history and documentation functions.
"Total cost of the renewal is $140,425.26," Harter said, explaining the recommended departmental allocation: $53,713.11 to 911 (CAD), $54,924.12 to the Sheriff's Office records and $31,788.04 to jail services. Staff said the 2026 figure (excluding a new booking export interface) is about 5% higher than 2025’s $130,378.35. Commissioner Dan Woydziak moved approval; the motion carried 5-0.
Why it matters: the county’s CAD and records platforms are used across emergency response and law-enforcement workflows; lapses in maintenance or licensing could affect data sharing and legally required recordkeeping. The renewal extends maintenance and support through Dec. 31, 2026. The commission did not direct additional study or amendments to the contract at the meeting; staff were authorized to sign purchase documents as necessary.
