Commission authorizes $1.06 million bridge replacement on NW 150th St.

Butler County commissioners authorized a contract with B and B Bridge Company, LLC for $1,061,223.27 to replace bridge structure 24N9-23-4 (E. Branch Whitewater River on NW 150th St.). Public Works Director Curtis Mader said the existing T-beam structure has shifted and developed cracks that pose a safety hazard, and the project was part of the 2025 Capital Improvement Plan.
The Commission accepted B and B’s low bid on Dec. 2, 2025; that bid was 7.5% over the engineer’s estimate, and Kansas Statute 68-521 permits acceptance of bids up to 10% over the estimate. Commissioner Kelly Herzet moved to approve the contract and Commissioner Jeff Masterson seconded; the motion carried 5-0.
