Committee explores roundabouts, loop ramps and phased approaches to avoid costly bridge widening

Consultants previewed several conceptual forms that will be developed more fully during the alternatives phase: (1) a widened overpass with signalized ramp terminals and widened off‑ramps, (2) roundabout‑based treatments that can often avoid bridge widening because they remove the need for left‑turn lanes, and (3) looped off‑ramp concepts that convert left turns into right turns to improve flow for predominant movements.
Alex Hattenhower and other committee members urged realism on funding and implementability. "If we're restricted by funding... what should we be working from — the funding chunk backwards?" Hattenhower asked; consultants said they will evaluate concepts against seven criteria (traffic operations, freight, multimodal, access spacing, implementability, cost and phasing) and produce sketches for review.
