The McPherson County Commission approved June 22 a purchase to install a mailbox at the county building so the U.S. Postal Service will deliver mail directly to county offices.
Staff told the board some county offices had already canceled their post office boxes and that porching mail to the courthouse will reduce staff time spent walking to the post office. The quoted cost was $3,780 plus shipping; a commissioner moved to approve the purchase and the motion passed by voice vote.
Staff noted there will still be occasions when departments must pick up large shipments or boxes (for example, tax payments in December), but most regular mail should be delivered to the building and distributed internally.
