County jail population declines slightly; two new correctional officers introduced

An agency official (S4) said earlier counts showed 43 inmates but current numbers were lower: 39 males, four females and one juvenile being housed. The official added the department made 23 arrests the prior week. The commission asked follow‑up questions about court dates for a detainee and juvenile housing and received confirmation that a court date was scheduled in July.
The same official introduced the newest hires by name: Elizabeth Morris, who is from Colorado Springs and previously worked at the Hutchinson prison and attended Oral Roberts University, and Chris Whitten, described as from Wichita Falls, Texas, with a criminal‑justice degree. The board welcomed both new officers. “These are our 2 newest correctional officers,” the corrections official said, and commissioners responded with welcomes and thanks.
