Butler County approved invoices from Scotwood Industries totaling $24,889.20 to apply magnesium chloride for dust control on three miles of road after delays to the chip‑seal schedule caused excessive dust.
Public Works Director Curtis Mader explained that flood damage and reassignment of crews delayed chip sealing; when asphalt operations ended, Ergon had shut down for the season and a prepared gravel surface created dust concerns prior to winter. ‘‘Magnesium chloride is applied to dirt and gravel roads to control dust by attracting and retaining moisture from the air, which keeps the road surface damp and stable,’’ Mader said. The treatment was applied on two listed segments and a third mile and the county paid Scotwood Industries $24,889.20 for the work.
Commissioner Jeff Masterson moved to approve the invoices and Commissioner Dan Woydziak seconded; the motion passed 4‑0. The Board and staff also discussed the NW 150th St. paving project and other future summer projects.
