Commission adopts PPE clothing and footwear stipend policy for Public Works

Public Works Director Curtis Mader presented a revised PPE clothing and footwear stipend policy to the Board and said it is intended to promote worker safety, uniformity and to offset out‑of‑pocket expenses for high‑wear clothing and personal protection items.
Mader explained the stipend approach is more flexible and lower cost than providing a uniform service and places responsibility for clothing care with employees. ‘‘This stipend will be the total allowed amount divided by the number of paychecks per year,’’ he said. The policy sets price limits for boots, jeans and cold weather protection and authorizes a per‑paycheck stipend for eligible field employees.
Commissioner Darren Jackson moved to approve the Public Works PPE Clothing and Footwear Stipend Policy; Commissioner Jeff Masterson seconded and the motion passed 4‑0.
