County Clerk Amy described a five-month review of precinct assignments required after redistricting and a Secretary of State reconciliation. She explained precinct parts (the smallest assignment unit that pairs a voter list to a polling location), described enclaves and exclaves found during the review and said some precincts'for example in Coffeyville'were administratively consolidated (from 13 to 6 precincts) to simplify election administration.
Amy said the review identified underused polling sites (example: Cherokee Township Hall saw 11% turnout with about 297 registered voters) and that she plans to close two, possibly three, low-turnout polling sites depending on poll worker feedback; she cited Wayside (260 registrants) and Havana (441 registrants) as geographically proximate and a possible consolidation candidate. Amy said the county will mail a notice of disposition and voter cards to every registered voter with their new precinct part and polling location ahead of the August primary and that maps and a searchable address tool will be posted to city and county websites.
