County clerk asks commissioners to authorize KBI background checks for cereal malt beverage licenses

County Clerk Amy told commissioners that changes to state procedures require background checks for cereal malt beverage (CMB) license applicants be processed through the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) and that the county can submit a resolution to get the KBI fee waived for the county's checks. She cited statute 41-2703 regarding eligibility criteria and said the county will screen owners with more than 25% ownership, spouses and managers as required.
Commissioners moved, seconded and voted to adopt the resolution so Amy could open an account with KBI and submit background checks. Amy asked the board to sign two notices to township boards for CMB applications (Caney Valley Golf Club and Caney Valley Speedway) so the township boards can review and respond if they have objections; she said the notices and the KBI submission are separate steps in the licensing process.
