DOC asks Montgomery County commissioners to authorize sealed bids for admin remodel
Summary
A Department of Corrections representative asked the Board to authorize sealed bids to remodel the DOC administrative area, break room and squad room; he said the county has been accumulating a dedicated fund that brings in roughly $90,000'to'100,000 per quarter to pay for the work and commissioners asked for an engineer's report before bidding.

Mr. Dunham, introduced by the chair as representing the Department of Corrections, asked the Board to approve going out for sealed bids to remodel the DOC administrative office, break room and squad room. He described the work as cosmetic: new paint, flooring, cabinetry and counters to create additional workstations in a building originally outfitted in 1988.
"We are proposing that we do this with KDAD's money, which we have been continuously collecting every 0.25 for the last close to 3 years," Dunham said, adding "we're roughly bringing in 90 to a 100,000 every 0.25." Commissioners expressed support but asked that an engineer's report be produced before bids are advertised to confirm whether sprinkler or plumbing systems would be affected. The chair and a commissioner agreed the bid process should be sealed and specifications provided to all contractors so each bid is comparable.
