Polk County approves $5.1 million Motorola upgrade for public-safety radio system

County Manager Bill Beasley asked the Polk County commission to approve Amendment No. 6 to the county’s master purchase agreement with Motorola Solutions for public-safety radio system upgrades. Beasley said the six-year agreement would run from Oct. 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2032, with total expenses not to exceed $5,135,075.74 and an initial-year annual expense as stated in the manager’s presentation.
Beasley told commissioners the upgrade (referred to as 'version 2') provides software, hardware and implementation services to maintain secure, operational and expandable communications, and that funds are budgeted in the radio communication fund for the upcoming fiscal year. "So madam chair, members of the board, I think in keeping with the board's priority commitments to public safety across all of Polk County...I would request the board approve the 6th amendment...not to exceed $5,135,075.74," he said.
The board moved and unanimously approved the amendment by voice vote. The manager noted the agreement renews established maintenance, repair support and cybersecurity protections for the county's radio infrastructure.
