Martin Piccione briefed the committee on national developments: NASBA has released a white paper soliciting feedback on private equity and alternative practice structures with a comment deadline of Jan. 31, 2026, and the AICPA peer‑review board is discussing proposals that could direct some APSPE firms into national peer review administration. "The white paper that you have in your materials has a comment deadline of 01/31/2026," Piccione said, and he recommended the committee take time to study the questions in depth.
Committee members agreed to schedule a hybrid Laws & Rules Committee meeting on Jan. 9, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. to work through the white paper questions and prepare any suggested comments for the board’s Jan. 29 meeting. Members noted the issues are complex and overlap with independence rules and peer‑review administration; they asked staff to circulate specific questions in advance and to include any national exposure drafts that appear before Jan. 9 on the agenda.
