Shawnee County election office outlines staffing, timelines ahead of primary

Howell outlined specific operational milestones: ballots must be ready about 45 days in advance for federal service ballots, the office has roughly 87 polling places and about 247 precincts to manage, and the county mailed roughly 3,500 ballot applications this cycle. He said the office is currently running early voting 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and that electronic poll books and bipartisan proofing teams help reduce errors. "We have almost 600 election workers for this year," Howell said, adding that many volunteers have decades of experience.
