Jake Stressman asked the committee to forward the Circuit Court’s Community Corrections Program grant request of $388,167.40 to the full board, noting the increase mainly funds an outpatient treatment service for OWI offenders with second and third offenses. “I am here to request approval for the community corrections program grant in the amount of $388,167.40,” he said.
Commissioner Bair pressed staff on performance data, saying the county’s figures “look very poor” compared with state averages. Citing numbers provided in the packet, Bair said Jackson County’s rate is “52.7 per 100,000,” versus a state comparable of “26.6” per 100,000, and asked how frequently the program is reevaluated. Stressman said he believes the corrections director conducts reviews on an annual basis and attributed part of the higher figure to backlogged charges from previous years catching up with current caseloads.
Bair urged the committee to monitor outcomes, saying he wanted to see improvements next year. The committee voted to forward the grant to the full board with a recommendation of approval; the motion passed unanimously.
