Board delays filling Road Commission vacancy until after August primary

Commissioner Frederick raised correspondence item #2 noting Cris Jones’s resignation from the Crawford County Road Commission. Chairperson Jamison said County Controller Paul Compo would consult legal counsel about an appropriate timeframe to fill the vacancy. After counsel reported there is no statutory deadline, the board approved a motion (by Commissioner Lewis, second by Commissioner Moore) to wait until after the August primary to appoint a Road Commissioner; the roll-call vote was unanimous.

Chairperson Jamison said there is no statutory deadline for appointments of a County Road Commissioner but that vacancies should be filled within a reasonable timeframe; the board elected to delay formal appointment until the post-primary period. No appointment or interim appointment was made at the June 11 meeting.
