MSU Extension director reports program growth, will request funding to extend coordinator hours

Julie Darnton, Michigan State University Extension District Director, presented MSU Extension’s 2025 annual report to the Crawford County Board of Commissioners on June 25, saying local 4‑H programs have grown and currently have waiting lists.
Darnton said she would like to expand staff hours to meet demand and plans to present a funding request at the county’s budget hearing. She also announced a personal job change: she will move to a new District 9 Director position covering Bay, Midland, Saginaw, Shiawassee and Genesee counties and will assist the transition of a new District 4 director. Darnton summarized the Extension’s mission in Crawford County: "Whatever you're trying to do, Extension does that. MSU Extension will show up, help people thrive, welcome everyone, manage resources responsibly and take risks for Michigan residents across the state."
The board did not vote on the staffing request at the meeting; Darnton said the funding request will be presented during the formal budget process. Commissioners thanked her for the report; Commissioner Moore later publicly thanked Darnton for her service to Crawford County.
