Board approves Wakeley Canoe Landing improvements; county incurs no cost

The Crawford County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 26 accepted a proposal to make changes at Wakeley Canoe Landing intended to improve trailer access, change drainage from driveways, remove dilapidated structures and stabilize the hand‑carry launch area. The project is supported by Anglers of the AuSable, Trout Unlimited and the U.S. Forest Service, and the County owns the property; the Board recorded that there is no expense to the County for the work.
Commissioner Phil Lewis moved to accept the Wakeley Canoe Landing proposal and Commissioner Moeller seconded; the motion carried on roll call. Board members discussed the project's goals and noted the County's role is limited to property acceptance and coordination. No construction contract or county funding was authorized at the meeting; partners will implement the improvements under the proposal presented to the Board.
